West Musgrave will be one of the world’s largest, lowest cost, lowest emissions copper-nickel projects, built and operated by BHP.

Our West Musgrave nickel-copper project is located on Ngaanyatjarra country, in the Musgrave Province of Central Western Australia, and includes the Nebo and Babel nickel-copper deposits and the Succoth copper deposit.
West Musgrave, which has a 26-year mine life, will be an owner-operator mining operation and in addition to being powered by ~80 per cent renewable energy, the Project scope includes a pathway to net zero Scope 1 emissions by 2038.
The Project will feature an Autonomous Haulage System and remote operations from day one and our workforce will be a flexible, technology enabled team supported by remote operations to improve safety outcomes and maximise opportunities for flexible working and diverse participation.

The Details
Reporting to the Lead – Commercial, you will support the on time and on-budget delivery of the West Musgrave Project.
You will play an essential role in the effective administration of the West Musgrave Project’s contracts and tenders, and develop positive relationships with stakeholders to enable the successful delivery of Commercial outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Advisor – Commercial’s main responsibilities are:
- Provide effective support to the project in the commercial management of multiple work packages
- Lead and facilitate commercial negotiations with contractors and suppliers, both pre-contract and post execution
- Work with Project Managers and discipline leads (Project Controls, Quality, Safety, Environment)
- Draft commercial correspondence, including contract variations
- Pro-actively drive the sign off and approval of key documents as per the DOA policy
- Coordinate payment and milestone claims
- Effectively liaise with cost controllers and planners to validate monthly claims
- Independently manage the post award contracts database/control system
- Support the commercial team in project reporting
- Efficiently lead and manage multiple Tender processes to support Project Delivery
- Draft contract documents, including terms, schedules and annexures
- Lead evaluation teams, review and evaluate tender submissions
- Pro-actively review, assess, and action contractual clarifications
- Draft recommendation documentation, execute and award contracts
Applicant Requirements
This role requires a self-motivated, hands on and values-based individual with a desire to deliver best practice outcomes with skills, experience, and personal attributes including:
- Strong commercial experience accompanied by an understanding of technical areas
- Experience with contract management systems (Aconex desirable)
- Proven experience in Tender development, release, and management, ideally in large mining or infrastructure projects
- Exposure, knowledge and understanding of complex contractual frameworks and confidence in contract negotiation
- Strong ability to build relationships and collaborate with various stakeholders at different levels and complexity
- Proven experience managing multiple and concurrent activities in a high-pressure environment to achieve quality results
- Maintain a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism and work ethic
- Pro-active support to process improvement and a genuine desire to support the development of skills in a commercial / controls space
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated, reliable, and considerate
- Positive mindset and commitment to achieving set outcomes within agreed timeframes
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook
