Location: Carrapateena, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)
Roster: 4 days on; 3 days off, on site at Carrapateena
Reporting to Senior Engineer- Tailings & Water
Permanent role

How You Will Create Impact

 

The Engineer – Tailings will be responsible to ensure compliance of our tailings management system, and with all necessary corporate and legal requirements as they evolve. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with various site departments, corporate tailings personnel and the engineer of record towards the safe operation, surveillance and ongoing construction of the tailings facility and wellfields.

 

  • Fulfil the role of Site Responsible Tailings Engineer (SRTE) as outlined in the ICMM GISTM and ANCOLD guidelines.
  • Perform or oversee routine dam inspections of the tailings facility.
  • Develop and refine tailings plans, monitoring and systems that will achieve regulatory compliance
  • Work with the site teams and design engineer to develop and execute short and long term construction and maintenance plans and schedules
  • Work with the engineer of record to continuously improve and implement the quality assurance and control, construction monitoring, and dam surveillance programs
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership on tailings management related issues
  • Provide necessary reporting to site, corporate, and government agencies
  • Maintain an action log of required tasks and their current status to ensure compliance and adherence to delivery of these tasks.
  • Assist with any required public consultations
  • Coordinate activities with Consultants, Project Engineering, Processing, Environmental, contractors and Government Regulators as required.
  • Oversee the engagement of various contractors for the purposes of field investigations at the TSF.
  • Provide updates to operating, maintenance, and surveillance manuals, along with emergency preparedness and response plans, and other management system documents.
  • Work to achieve and maintain compliance to GISTM in line with corporate objectives.
  • Manage and track the site water balance and report to the water steering team. 
  • Work with the various teams in tracking and monitoring wellfield health and capacity.

 

What We Value

 

  • Bachelor degree in Geotechnical, Environmental or Civil Engineering (or related discipline). Significant on the job experience may negate this requirement 
  • Minimum three years of experience with mine tailings management and/or water dam management
  • Project Management experience, including budgeting and costing.
  • Familiarity with ANCOLD, ICMM and other relevant tailings standards.
